LED BULBS: WHICH COLOR SHOULD I USE?
If you are using an LED bulb behind an amber or red lens, it is a good idea to match the bulb's color to the lens. Using a white lens behind a red lens may produce pink light.
Understanding how the new light bulb will behave in the housing you plan to install it in is crucial when considering replacing your stock vehicle halogen/incandescent light bulbs with an LED product.
The color of the LED should match the color of the lens for optimal performance, or use the color that corresponds to the turn and brake light functions if the bulb is behind a clear lens. As an illustration, a red lens will block out all but the red portion of the light; hence, if the light is entirely red, the lens will block none or very little of it. Since a white LED emits very little light in the red region of the visible spectrum, a red lens would filter out the majority of the light.
